The Dynamic Responses of Oil Palm Leaf and Root Metabolome to Phosphorus Deficiency

Inorganic phosphate (Pi) starvation is an important abiotic constraint that affects plant cellular homeostasis, especially in tropical regions with high acidic soil and less solubilizable Pi. In the current work, oil palm seedlings were hydroponically maintained under optimal Pi-supply no conditions for 14 days, metabolites measured by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), from leaves roots, after seven days of treatment, to investigate biochemical pathways relation P-utilizing strategy. After limited Pi, showed increased levels most soluble sugars, sugars’ level decrease, except erythritol, mannose, fructose, glucose, which highest levels. Rather root samples, there different but overlapping alterations, mainly on amino acids, organic acids. The leaf sample was shown have response sugars myo-inositol playing a vital role redistribution while maltose increased, indicating active degradation starch root. High glycerol stearate both roots suggest metabolism storage lipids energy during Pi-deficient conditions.
